On Sept. 271999Tiger Stadium hosted its final game. A special pre-game ceremony was held with legendary Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell as emcee and the event honored Hall-of-Famer Al Kaline. The Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 8-2 thanks in part to a Robert Fick grand slam that landed on the roof. After the game Harwell bid farewell to the 88-year-old stadium while old film footage rolled featuring Ty Cobb Sam Crawford and other Tigers legends. The pitcher's mound was dug up and transported to Comerica Park.
